Instructions for printing a tall greeting card:
The download sample templet is from PrintMaster Platinum but you can use any card program to print your card.
Download Template (.sig)
This can be confusing, so please always print a sample before you print on your card and follow the directions carefully
. Take a regular 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper and cut the 8 1/2" side to 7". By cutting this you now will have the right height of the card so when you print out your sample it will be centered and print
correctly.
These instructions are for PrintMaster 7. I have used the newer American Greetings programs also with
success. You may have to adapt the instructions below to your card program.
- Open your print program.

- Choose brand new
- Choose blank page or poster, click next.
- Choose tall, click finish
- Now choose print, click setup
- Click properties next to the name of your printer.
- Click the tab for paper.
- Under paper size click on the pull down tab and arrow down and click user define.
- A box pops up for paper sizes. Put 7 for wide and 15.3 for height, click ok, ok again and ok again then click cancel. This will set up your page for you. (Your page will show 7 x 15.3)
- Choose T for text, click add text box. Draw a square on the blank sheet of paper to type your sentiment.
- Type your sentiment, double click the box (this will hi-light the sentiment) choose center to center the sentiment in the box, choose the color of the type you want and choose the type of font and
size of the font you want and then click outside of the box to accept your selections.
- Now click on the box, you will see a handle on the right side, click on the tab of the handle and bring it ¼ turn to the top of your screen. Your type is now facing your right hand.
- Click on the center of the box and center it in the top 1/3 of the layout on your screen. (There are
8 small boxes around your text.) There is a ruler on the left and top side of the layout. Make sure the center box is on the 2" for the left ruler. This should center your sentiment and then you
can center the other (top and bottom of your sentiment) by eye balling it.
- Unfold your card, crease the folds back open so it lays flat so it doesn't catch when it passes through your printer. You will be printing on this 3rd section of the card so you need to put this
end of the card into your printer first.
- Choose file, print, if you see that your page layout went back to 8 ½ x 11 then follow steps 6-9 above, if not then just choose OK. (On some programs the layout reverts back to the 8 ½
x 11 when you choose print and I can't explain why, so be sure your layout is still 7 x 15.3 or it will not print correctly. You may also need to print as an inkjet transparency under paper type so
the ink doesn't smear.
To print a graphic or a sentiment on the inside of the card.
- Delete your sentiment and replace it with a graphic or a different sentiment and center it like you did above.
- If your layout doesn't show the 7 x 15.3 then you need to follow steps 6-9 above to change it back from the 8 ½ x 11. (If you don't, it will not be centered properly).
- Flip your card over (top to bottom, or end for end) and insert it into the printer. This will print on the inside tab of your card, so when the card is folded properly you will have a graphic on the left
and your sentiment on the right.
- Choose print, making sure you are still on the 7 x 15.3 layout and then choose ok.
- Now place glue around the inside oval of your card centering your design or picture, now place glue around the edges of the left side and press over the oval. Your card is complete.
